Bright, roots, and courage, are words that come to mind when thinking about Ana Maria’s history in coffee. We met Ana in 2019, when she took over her grandfather’s farms and founded Café Primitivo (named after him).
Since the beginning she has transmitted us her positive energy, her love for coffee and her tenacity to create space in a historically male-dominated industry.
Ana María is the sixth generation of coffee producers.
In 2019, faced with the difficult decision of either selling the family farms or dedicating herself to coffee, she chose to continue the legacy of her ancestors. She decided to move back to Armenia, leaving behind career opportunities in Bogotá, and returning to her roots. She wanted to change the traditional business model and to create a better reality for those who work in coffee.
Showing that young generations and women can lead and make a positive impact in the coffee industry. Because, as her grandfather used to tell her:
“Coffee is not just a business, coffee is a social issue”.
Ana is also the co-founded member of the Colombian chapter of the IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance), a global network of chapters that promotes knowledge and empowerment among women working in coffee.
This coffee is cultivated in Finca La Paloma, located in Circasia, Quindio, between 1300 and 1750 masl. After manually harvested the drupes are fermented for 72 hours in an anaerobic environment. Then, dried for 30 days in wood beds. Before milling it is stabilized for 3 months.
